sweet words from an unexpected place
Tuesday evening I was folding too many loads of clean clothes that I had put off for too long. Eden was upstairs sleeping. Greg was on a phone call. The boys were playing cars or dinosaurs or something. Spongebob was on in the background. Tygar came up to me and I must have had a scowl on my face from folding the laundry. He said, “Mom, do you get tired of doing your jobs?” I said, “Sometimes.” He walked away and plopped down in a chair. After a few seconds, he turned back to me and said, “Mom, I’ll do your job for you when you’re tired.” As you can imagine, my heart melted and my scowl immediately disappeared and I told him how sweet he was to say that.
The next day, Stone, Eden and I were outside waiting for Tygar to catch the bus for kindergarten. Whenever Tygar finds a dandelion, he immediately brings it to me saying, “Mommy, look what I found for you.” Well, today was a little different. He ran up to me with 3 dandelions in his hands that he had just picked. He looked at me and said, “One for you, mommy. One for my bus driver, because she’s a girl and one for my teacher. She’s a girl too.” Again, my heart melted. Tygar can have a tough and crazy exterior at times, but on these 2 instances, his heart was so soft and kind. Definitely things to treasure as sweet words and actions come from an unexpected place. I guess by now, I shouldn’t see them as unexpected, but I still do.
