Our family believes in giving to others. Whether that’s opening up our home for someone to live with us or helping with a community event or supporting a company that gives back.
Today I want to share with you a few of those companies/organizations that are making a difference & giving back. They have seen a need, created a product for you to purchase that in turn benefits others. Each of them have mission statements that make my inner dream cheerleader come to life.
Better Life Bags ~ Their “mission is to hire women who have various barriers to employment to make…custom leather and fabric bags. [The women] are adopted into our Better Life family and given a chance to succeed in life, family, and friendship.”
This company cares about the quality & craftsmanship of their product but also the people that work for them. One thing to note: the prices are not what you see on a tag in the Target aisle. Another thing to note: the price is worth every penny. I knew I wanted a bag that would be perfect for everyday use & could easily carry my MacBook Pro for work & travel. I started saving some money for a Better Life Bag and last Spring I purchased a Ready to Ship Nadia. Create your own custom bag here!
Sole Hope ~ “Offering hope, healthier lives, and freedom from foot-related diseases through education, jobs & medical relief.”
I first heard about Sole Hope at the Influence Conference in 2013 where we participated in a shoe cutting party. We sat around our tables & cut blue jeans that the Sole Hope team would take to Uganda & make into shoes. It was inspiring! Last year I hosted my first shoe cutting party with some friends here in Lemont. I have purchased a few items from their store as well. I love the t-shirt & I wore the sandals all summer long. One of my dear friends, Angela Statzer, is traveling to Uganda in January. Find out how you can support her trip here.
FASHIONABLE ~ “beautiful products by women who have overcome”. They started as a global outreach to empower women with a skill that will help them & their community. Recently, they expanded to have a local impact as well. One of my favorite products that I’ve purchased from them is the Heta Wallet. I’ve had it for about 6 months now and I love it.
Bombas ~ “Bombas was born out of a mission to help those in need. We’re committed to making our community where we live and work a better place with every pair of socks we sell.”
They learned that the most requested item at homeless shelters were socks. For every pair of socks purchased, they donate a pair to a homeless shelter. As of this post, they’ve donated over 520,000 pairs of socks! I ordered some Bombas socks last year as Christmas gifts for my parents & myself. They are fantastic!
My friend Tsh Oxenreider & her family decided to do something practical about the refugee crisis, with the mindset being “because we can’t do nothing”! She’s so right.
First of all, Read this post by Tsh. It is full of information about the refugee crisis and ways you can help. At the end of the post you’ll see that their family is selling t-shirts and giving all the profits to charities that are all involved in the refugee crisis. I ordered my t-shirt & it arrived yesterday. I love it!
