My Top Ten Reasons Why You Should Buy Myquillyn’s Book

April 28, 2014 By Caroline TeSelle

The Nesting Place - It Doesn't Have to be Perfect to be Beautiful

My friend wrote a book. I am 100% biased because she is my friend. A dear heart friend. Her friendship has taught me so much but one of the biggest? Letting go of pleasing people. It has been a life long struggle for me & she has given me permission to let that go through her friendship & through the words in this book. Myquillyn, thank you.

This book, is available to purchase & is appearing on bookshelves in bookstores across the country {the official release date is tomorrow!}. Go buy one. Or two. Grab one as a gift for your mother or mother-in-law or friend or teacher or neighbor. Your house & heart will be blessed.

Toss that friendship bias out the window and pay attention now…here are my

Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Buy Myquillyn’s Book:

idhtbptbb_1

10. The photographs – every single one! Myquillyn took them! How many design books do you know of that the author took the photographs? So, if you hate to read & love to look at the pictures in a book, this book is perfect for you! {but I hope you read it too!} Myquillyn states in the book, “If we feel bad after looking at a pretty photo, then we are looking at it all wrong.” {page 44} Watch out – your perfect world is gonna get rattled!

9. The cover photo has a plastic dinosaur & a covered chair with strings hanging off the bottom. The strings might drive perfect people crazy. If you struggle with perfection – buy the book for therapy.

8. Have you moved more than once in your lifetime? {I’m raising my hand – 11 times in 17 years}. Chapter 2 is for you.

7. You can be connected to Compassion International with a quick scan from your smart phone. Her sweet story about visiting Topiwo’s home in Tanzania is breathtaking & life changing & brings me to tears. every. single. time.

idhtbptbb_pouf

6. On page 51, she gives you permission to rest. Amen.

5. What are the signs of life in your home? {page 56} Every home should have them.

idhtbptbb_dining

4. This book makes an imperfect home feel like home. {I purposely did not crop out the broom in the corner or the box of allergy pills or the towel that’s been sitting on the ledge to soak up leaks on rainy days when I forget to put the towel there…}

idhtbptbb_greg

3. This is a book that your husband will enjoy reading too!

the_smiths2. We love her and her family – you will too after reading this book!

1. Your view of striving for perfection will be turned upside down. Aren’t you ready to let that perfection go? I’ll answer that for you…Yes! “It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.”

There’s little I love more than a perfectly clean home, but with 3 little boys and 1 baby girl it’s a struggle from “son up to son down”. I’m realizing my time is far better spent teaching and enjoying my noisy, messy, crazy childen, than striving for the perfect home. Our home doesn’t have to be perfectly clean to be beautiful place to raise a family. This book is definitely for me!

God bless a young woman with wisdom! When we buy into the perfection myth, we’re buying into satan’s lie and our lives are the worse for buying the lie. My house was always cluttered and a bit dusty because if Dave wanted to sit, drink a cup of coffee and chat…I was all over it! Now that he’s dead, those memories help sustain me. Life is about the memories and the making thereof; not perfection.

#OneDayMay May 25 - A struggle right now is…

…in the words of Steve Kerr, “When are we going to do something?”

I’ve struggled for years, especially in my childhood, wondering if my voice mattered.

As an adult, I’ve grown to learn that my voice matters. Whether or not you disagree with the what I’m saying, it matters.

It’s a voice that needs to be heard.

It’s a voice that is here, at this point in time, during this span of 1972 until I die, for such a time as this—to speak up for the innocent, the abused, the least of these.

I’ve heard the phrase, “not every issue has our name on it.” I believe that is true to a certain extent. I can’t possibly support every issue or cause. I would be exhausted and bankrupt.

But friends, gun violence has every American name on it.

Something needs to be done because the way it is now is unacceptable.

When are we going to do something?

Now.

#OneDayMay May 19 - I’m proud of myself for…⁣
⁣
…allowing myself to be taken care of the past few years. That’s hard for me to admit 😘 because I am usually the one taking care of others. ⁣
⁣
But my body finally said enough or it was the quiet pride building up in my heart that had finally had enough. My heart was literally enlarged and I could barely make it out of bed most days much less take care of others! ⁣
⁣
The pandemic has been horrible in so many ways but it brought our family closer. ⁣
⁣
Between my health and Eden’s hip reconstruction, the men in our family rallied and have taken such great care of us. And the support from family and friends has been life-giving. 💛⁣
⁣
Here we are, two years later and I’m still advocating for my health (that will never stop!) and allowing others to take care of me (I hope I don’t let my pride get in the way of that either!).⁣
⁣
Another surgery in the morning, friends. This time, a team of doctors and nurses will be closing the PFO (hole in my heart) with a tiny “umbrella”. Amazing, right? I’m so thankful. ☂️❤️‍🩹⁣
⁣
The hope is by closing this hole it will reduce the risk of a future stroke. After all the tests they’ve done the past few months, the doctors believe the cause of my mini-stroke back in December was due to a small clot escaping through that hole and up into my brain.⁣

I hope to keep up with the #OneDayMay prompts after tomorrow because I have loved this challenge and also have enjoyed reading what others have shared. ⁣

Until then, much love to each of you and your families 🥰
