A recap of what’s been going on here lately:
1. My friend Leanne & I went to see the movie About Time earlier this week. Fans of Rachel McAdams will adore this movie & you will be charmed by Domhall Gleeson. The “R” rating is mostly earned by the character, Harry, {played by Tom Hollander – a far cry from his Pride & Prejudice character Mr. Collins} with a few choice words he blurts out occasionally & from a poster of a topless woman which is briefly seen in the background of one of the scenes.
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Even though there’s a sci-fi element {time travel!} it’s sweet, funny & focuses on family & making every moment count.
At the end of the movie, Leanne mentioned she would love to have the soundtrack. I agree, it is SO GOOD. One of my favorites on the soundtrack is Ellie Goulding’s “How Long Will I Love You”. I have it on repeat right now.
2. We had 2 free tickets to use at Hollywood Boulevard so we took the kids to see Free Birds for family night this week. I’d give it a B- so wait for the DVD/Digital release. Beware, your kids may ask for pizza this Thanksgiving instead of turkey!
3. Stitch Fix – someone signed up through my referral link {THANK YOU!} so I immediately scheduled my next fix. ETA 12/6/13. Can’t wait to see what they send this time! What’s Stitch Fix? Read more about it here & here.
4. Ladies Night – all I can say is the theme was Jane Fonda and we laughed. A lot.
5. LHS Open House for the Class of 2018. Gunnar will be in high school next year. Geez I’m old.
6. We watched Billy Graham’s The Cross twice in the past week. Once with the younger kids & then again with the older kids. It’s completely worth the 28 minutes it took to watch. We had great conversations with our kids afterwards. Have you seen it?
7. Want to know of a way that you can help the families & children affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan? My friends at Compassion International have a way. Click here for more information.
8. I spent about 3 hours cleaning & purging our kitchen last week. I had 3 bins ready to be filled with: 1) donations to our local thrift shop; 2) family heirlooms & 3)vintage sale items. One day, hopefully soon, I’ll organize the vintage items & have a sale, probably via Instagram. I’ll keep ya posted!
9. This morning there was a bear, I mean a Great Dane, running around outside when it was time for Eden & Stone to go to the bus stop. Usually, I kiss them as they walk out the door & watch them walk to their bus stop from the front window. When I got to the window this morning, I noticed our neighbor’s dog, Blue, had escaped & Eden was running back towards the house. Blue is a sweet dog & loves kids, but when a dog is taller than you & could knock you over with a lick, you run. So, I flew out the door and walked Eden back to the bus stop & by this time, Blue’s owner was there & we were both trying to get her attention but she wanted nothing more than to enjoy her little bit of freedom. Any attempt to grab her collar was futile. The bus came & the kids hopped on & Blue’s excitement wore off & she eventually followed her owner home.
10. Can you believe that November is half over?!? Besides celebrating Thanksgiving, here are four things I’m excited about this month:
1) winter trees are coming back,
2) the tea kettle will be working overtime,
3) Tar Heel basketball &
4) online shopping for Christmas presents! I have already ordered some gifts from Garnish, fashionABLE, Show & Tell Faith, Gussy Sews, Reeve Coobs, Everyday Icing, & Shutterfly.
Your turn – what’s been going on with you lately?
