A few times a year we set aside a time for our family to go on a trip together that doesn’t involve visiting anyone or really doing anything. We just want to go somewhere and be together as a family outside of our normal comfort zone.
You’ve heard of KOA, right? Last month we spent the weekend at one of their campgrounds outside of Indianapolis, IN. We do not own any tents so we rented one of their Cabins. We had Goober sandwiches for lunch and cooked burgers on the grill at night. We explored every inch of that campground. We played Phase 10. We laughed. We rented silly yellow bikes. We built campfires. We snacked on Slim Jim’s & trail mix. We learned how to use a knife to make the perfect marshmallow stick. We played frisbee & baseball & football & basketball. One night we shared s’mores with our friends that live nearby.
A weekend full of memorable moments.
One thing I failed to do during our weekend was to give the camera to Greg or one of the kids to snap some shots of our weekend. Even though I’m not in any of the pictures above, I was there! I don’t even have an Instagrams because we took this trip during Quietember. So, learn from my mistake – if you are the regular picture taker in the family, pass the camera around!
Do you have a favorite family getaway?
