I’m not even sure how to begin this post. There are moments in life where you can look back and you can see God leading or just know it was something He set up.
When we moved to Huntersville almost 2 years ago, we were excited about being here but sad to leave the friends who had become family to us in Illinois. It was truly bittersweet. We were blessed by so many in Huntersville with meals and help getting settled into our new home and town and church. A few weeks after moving here, a wife of one of leaders on Greg’s student leadership team called and had something for us and wanted to drop it off. I said “Sure, come on over!” Twenty minutes later, she shows up at our door, full of excitement to meet us and she was carrying a cake. A chocolate cake! A woman after my own heart. We said thank you and made plans to get together soon.
Later that evening, after dinner, we had some cake. It was the most DELICIOUS chocolate cake I’ve ever tasted. I’m not kidding! She won me over with cake!
In all seriousness, we have become close friends since that day. Our families enjoy spending time together and our spouses are similar in so many ways, it’s eerie at times. They are the couple we spent a weekend with at the Cottage in Waynesville a few months ago.
By this time, you’re probably wondering why I haven’t mentioned her name. It turns out she is well known in the blog world. She is known as The Nester and she writes anonymously because she has a very unique name. Nesting Place is where she reminds you that “it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.” She is knowledgeable in so many things related to your house and life. She is creative and will help you fall in love with your home. It’s refreshing to have a friend who doesn’t expect perfection, and still see you as beautiful. That’s The Nester. She has so much to say and share with others that she recently added three more blogs to Nesting Place. That’s four blogs people! She is that passionate about encouraging and inspiring others!
Why I’m writing all of this? About a month ago I was reading a post that Simple Mom wrote called “Working from Home as a Virtual Assistant“. I remember reading it, then showing it to my husband and thinking this could be something that I could do. It has been years since I’ve been an assistant, or even had a job {the year 2000 to be exact}. I read more about it online and said to my husband, “I wonder if {Nester} would need a virtual assistant when she launched her new blogs.” I put it on the back burner and didn’t say anything to her, I just kept pondering the thought in my mind.
About a week later, Nester and I were going to a birthday dinner for a mutual friend. Her house was on the way so I told her I would pick her up. On the way to the restaurant, Nester told me that in the next few days that she was going to be launching her new site and 3 new blogs and that she was considering hiring a virtual assistant. I almost crashed the car and had to refrain myself from smacking her on the arm and yelling, “No! Way!” Back to what I said earlier, there are moments in life where you can look back and you can see God leading or just know it was something He set up…this was one of those moments for me. After talking about it that night and a little more over the next couple of days, I’m glad to say I have a job! I still have so much to learn about the blog world and she is a great teacher. I’m thankful that I can help her to do what she’s passionate about by doing what God has given me the gifts to do – help & encourage others – behind the scenes kind of stuff.
I am so thankful for this opportunity and most of all her friendship, and it also helps to have a close friend who can bake a killer chocolate cake!

Killer cake and all – what a wonderful story!! God always has a hand in things, but isn’t it incredible when our blind eyes can actually see it??
Your story gave me goosebumps. Thanks for sharing!
